Review: Grumpy's Toy IV - 1968 Pro Stock Camaro - by RSCReview: Grumpy's Toy IV Reviewed by David Dilbeck
I've known about the RSC 1/24 scale Bill Jenkins '68 Camaro Pro Stock for some time now and I also knew that this was one diecast car I had to have. I'm a big fan of the early Pro Stock cars and this car holds a special place in history as Bill Jenkins won the first two NHRA Pro Stock national event titles (1970 Winternationals and Gatornationals) driving this car. I already knew that RSC produced quality diecast replicas because I had purchased an RSC Sox & Martin Pro Stock Duster from Ronnie Sox last year at the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame & 2003 Reunion and was very pleased with the model. I felt confident that the Jenkins Camaro would be just as nice. I placed an order for the car with Barb Stinson at RSC and it arrived in just a few days securely packaged and protected. Now its time to rave! The Grumpy's Toy IV Camaro is absolutely beautiful! From the perfect Cragar S/S wheels to the chrome trim around the windows, this diecast model is gorgeous!
The proportions are correct, the tires are realistic and properly positioned (if you've seen some of the other early Pro Stock diecast cars, you know what I'm describing) and the paint/lettering is superb.
Under the hood, the engine compartment is nicely detailed with features such as radiator hoses, wiring, an alternator, master cylinder and a cool can. The replicated aluminum ZL-1 427 engine features an Edelbrock tunnel ram with Holley 660 carbs. The model also has steerable front tires and a removable hood with the "Grump Lump" scoop.
The detail, accuracy, and craftsmanship of the RSC Grumpy's Toy IV is far better than most 1/24 (and many 1/18) scale diecast drag racing models that I've seen.
