After a couple of months of testing, reprogramming, and bug squashing, I have added a new photo ranking feature to the site. Anyone who wishes can rate any of the photos (in the GDR-XXXXX series) by clicking the link below the photo and choosing a rating between 1 (worst) and 10 (best).
Ratings are updated hourly, and the photos are ranked based on the score they receive, which is calculated by multiplying the number of ratings for each photo multiplied by the average rating. This takes into account both popularity (number of ratings) and quality (the rating itself). All ratings are obviously subjective and we don't intend for this to be taken very seriously.
All the ratings are erased on the first of each month and everything starts all over. This is so the new photos can have an equal opportunity with the older photos.
One of the interesting side effects of the rating program that I didn't anticipate is that it provides an alphabetical listing of all the photos in that section. They are sorted first by score, and then all the photos with the same score are sorted alphabetically. All photos are listed, with links to view the photo and rank it if you wish.
So, if you want to see all the photos of your favorite racer, you now have two ways to find them, easily. You can search using the Google search box in the left-hand column of most pages on the site, or you can view the current rankings.
If this turns out to be popular, I'll probably rewrite parts of the code to make it more efficient and start keeping a record of the highest ranked photo (by score) each month.

NHRA Division II Banquet Coverage in the current National Dragster

Photos and an award recipients list is featured in the full page coverage. Pro Stock pioneer Reid Whisnant was inducted into the Southeast Division Hall of Fame along with Jim Waibel and Charlie Windslow. Its great to see Reid finally make it into this select group. NHRA 2003 Fan Guide

Featured in the new NHRA Fan Guide is an article titled Meet the Power Pack. It focuses on the new stars of drag racing and feaures photos of Georgia's Mark Whisnant and Gene Wilson ( and some kind words ). An article on Gene Wilson winning the 2002 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award/ NHRA Drag Racing's Rookie of the Year Award is included and more ink on the GA Pro Stock guys is in the 2003 preview. The Top Ten Pro teams from 2002 are featured with small color photos ( one of the car and one of the driver ). Four Georgia Pro Stock teams that made that list. Warren Johnson ( #4 ), Kurt Johnson ( #6) , Gene Wilson ( #9 ), and Mark Whisnant ( #10 ) are featured. I can't leave out former Atlantan, Whit Bazemore, the number 5 Funny Car driver and Angelle Savoie ( Georgia based Star Racing ), number one in Pro Stock Bike. I believe that this is one of the nicest Fan Guides that NHRA has produced. Check it out!

Several new photos have been added today (GDR-00303 through GDR-00310).
Lots of minor adjustments and additions have been added over the last several days. I finally got caught up on posting the race results for Atlanta Dragway and Silver Dollar Raceway. Thanks to Tim Glover for writing and distributing these results.
Thanks go out to Hoyt Grimes, Butch Luther, Bogan Renfroe, and Roger Swanson for opening their photo collections and sharing with us.
I posted an update for photo GDR-00143 and added Roger Swanson's comments. I also added information about Frank Groves to several photos, and you can read Roger's comments on the photo GDR-00309 page
New events were posted to the Activities page and in the Upcoming Events category of the Forum.
The Forum is open and you're invited to register (please use your real first and last name) and participate. Once you are registered and have activated your membership (it's free), you'll see much more of the Forum. Introduce yourselves and jump into the conversations. Feel free to start a new conversation by posting a new topic.
Almost all of the major renovations are completed now, and we can get back to updating the site more frequently.

Three new members were inducted into the NHRA Division II Hall of Fame January 11, 2003 at the division awards banquet in Jacksonville, Fl. Professional Driver: Reid Whisnant, Sportsman Driver: James Waibel, Random Inductee: Charlie Winslow, and the first Buster Couch Memorial Award went to Jim Frizzell. Congratulations to all of the award winners! As many of you know, I've been a Reid Whisnant fan for years and years ( pre-Pro Stock days ), and I'm glad to see Reid finally receive the recognition that he deserves!

We're now running on the new server. There may be some bugs I haven't found yet, but I'm working to track 'em down and squash 'em.
Now that we're past this ordeal, we'll be able to get back to updating the content on the site.
New features are in the works and I'm looking forward to implementing them for you over the next several weeks.
