This Wade Lowe photo was taken just after Sneaky Pete Robinson won Top Eliminator at Indy in 1961. Pete pretty much came out of nowhere to win at Indy that year. His lightweight Chevy powered dragster was recording times that were so much quicker than the other cars that the NHRA refused to announce them for a couple of days.

Pete Robinson was one of the greatest innovators in drag racing history, but tragically, he lost his life at the NHRA Winternationals in 1971.

Wade Lowe was one of Pete's crew members at Indy in 1961. He and his brothers (Ray and Roy - twins) had drag raced in the Atlanta area for several years. Wade was, at one time, an advisor for NHRA and he also was one of the leading drag racing photographers in the Southeast. Several of his photos were published in national magazines. Thanks to Mr. Lowe for sharing this photo with GeorgiaDragRacing.com. -- David Dilbeck
